Testimonials

  • Did you know there is a very effective, natural nutrient that safely improves heart health?* Most doctors don’t. And that’s too bad…

Susan, a 53-year-old woman came to Nourishing Wellness Medical Center after learning that she was in a high risk category after receiving her blood lipid panel back from her primary care doc. She learned from her doctor that her HDL (good) cholesterol was too low ( 39)  and that her LDL was too high ( 128) and her triglycerides were too high ( 149). As a result, her doctor prescribed a statin drug.

But Susan didn’t like what happened next. She became extremely fatigued. Her thinking slowed down, and she felt there has to be a better way! That’s why she paid a visit to the Nourishing Wellness Medical Center. She heard that we use both food and key supplements as the first line approach to cholesterol management. For example, we have over 10 different foods and supplements we suggest that have been scientifically proven to help lower LDL and raise HDL levels, naturally.

In Susan’s case, we told her was that it really doesn’t matter what your total cholesterol level is as long as your HDL levels remain high-your risk of heart-related health problems can decrease dramatically.

Here is what we recommended for Susan:

Increase her fiber intake from 9 grams/day to 30 grams/day. This will bind the breakdown products of cholesterol and reduce your total cholesterol by as much as 18-20%. We recommended simple and tasty suggestions such as… add 2 tbsp of flax seed meal or chia seeds to her oatmeal or daily yogurt. Enjoy one large salad  a day with garbanzo beans, olive oil dressing, lots of color from red peppers, tomatoes or carrots, and eat one apple a day.

Switch to 3-4 glasses of red wine/week from 1-2 glasses of white wine daily.

Add 1 tbsp of Marine Fish Oils/daily – This is helpful with lowering tryglcerides by as much as 20-25% and raising HDL levels. We also suggested increasing her intake of fish, particularly sardines( which she loves) and  salmon.

Increase her exercise using free weights twice a week for 30 minutes and brisk walking 3 times a week for 30-45 minutes. This regimen would help raise HDL levels. Add 500 mg of sustained release Niacin/day- The key to niacin is using the right amount and the right kind. We recommend a slow release niacin has lots of heart health benefits. For one, it has been found to increase HDL cholesterol by 20% to 35%. It also: Decreases LDL by 5% to 25% and triglycerides below 100

  • Blocks the release of fatty acids from fat cells resulting in lower LDL and higher HDL.
  • It doesn’t cause the liver toxicity and hot flushes that were common in other niacin products of the past. After 2 months on this regimen, here’s what happened to Susan:
    • She dropped her total cholesterol from 237- 187mg/dl
    • Her LDL levels decreased from 128 to 94 (under 100 =ideal range)
    • Her HDL increased from 39 to 53
    • Her Triglycerides decreased from 149 to 87!! ( under 100 =ideal range)
    • Weight decreased from 143- 138
    • She felt more energy and her “ brain fog” had lifted …most of all she felt that this was a sustainable plan for her life.
    • If you are on a statin drug and would like to wean yourself off…
