Can’t Give Up Bread? Try a Collard Green Wrap Instead!

Why Try a Collard Green Wrap?

  • They are big and sturdy so they make a great alternative to a sandwich, burrito or bun.
  • They are packed with vitamins, minerals (including A, C, K and calcium) plus lots of anti-oxidants
  • They are gluten free and grain free
  • You’ll feel less bloated than if you ate that wheat bun or bagel!

How to Use Collard Greens?

Wash your  collard greens well, cut off the thick part of the stem, fill with your favorite filling and roll up~ Easy!

Other vegetable options that work as well as a collard leaf, include:

  • Savoy cabbage– This  is the very wrinkled out skin but leaves inside are pale green, sweeter, more tender and easier to wrap your filling  ingredients than other cabbage varieties
  • FB savoy cabbage

 

 

  • Napa Cabbage- The bottom half is too still to use raw but if you steam or blanch whole Napa leaves until they just wilt ( about 30 seconds) they are easy to handle as a bread alternative.

Stuffing Ideas for Collard or Cabbage Wraps

FB Collard green wrap

  • Any kind of sandwich or burger
  • Hummus + veggies
  • Scrambled eggs and veggies with avocado
  • Burrito or taco fillings – don’t forget the guacamole and hot sauce!
  • Anything you’d normally stick between two slices of bread or inside a tortilla or bagel
